Disney has renewed “Frodo” actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for a second time as lead actor in the sequel to the blockbuster musical.
The news comes on the heels of the news of “Frost/Nixon” actor Emma Stone joining the cast of “Snow White and the Huntsman,” while Chris Evans is set to direct “Faces Places” with Anna Paquin.
The film will be based on the popular children’s novel “Fantasyland,” which is set in the same world as the Disney theme park.
The story of a group of children that find themselves in a magical world and must save the world from the wicked witch Elvira has inspired several animated films, most recently “Futurama,” and many animated movies have featured elements of the story.
The first film “Fantasia” starred Jennifer Lawrence and Jason Sudeikis, while “Moana” star Tessa Thompson was a cast member of the “F” movie.
“Fulcrum” actor Chris Pratt was in the lead role of Elviras nemesis, but the film was later canceled.
“Moanas” is directed by Justin Kurzel, who also wrote the original “Fairytale Land.”
It is set between the original film “Beauty and the Beast” and the 2017 Disney animated film “Aladdin,” and will be released on Dec. 15, 2019.
“A Frozen 2” will also have a Disney Studios release date.
