But there’s one job they’ve neglected to promote: the ones who run the games development studio.
In a new interview with The Huffington Post Australia, a former employee from EA Australia’s Canberra studio revealed that the company has a “very limited” list of developers that it looks for, and that the studio is only open to applicants who have “some form of creative and technical skills”.
The former employee, who has since left the company, told the Huffington Post that she has no qualms about admitting her qualifications for the role, even though she said she’s been told by senior EA executives that “there’s no such thing as a good fit for someone with no experience” when it comes to managing a game studio.
“The only time I’ve ever been told ‘there’s nobody like you here’, I’ve been told, ‘There’s nothing like you’,” she said.
“You’ve got to have some degree of a creative and engineering background.
You have to have a strong interest in making games, because otherwise you’re going to get left behind.”
If you don’t have that, you’re not going to be considered.
“The employee was speaking about a particular problem she and others experienced while they worked on a project called The Sims 4.
The game, which was created by EA Australia and published by EA Canada, is the first EA game to launch on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, following the launch of its first game, The Sims 2.
The Sims 4’s success is an indication that the platform can be a viable place for games development, but it is not without its difficulties.
In the interview, the former employee said that she “didn’t have any qualms” about accepting a job with EA after she was told that the firm “has no such things as a ‘good fit for somebody with no talent’.”
When they’re looking for people, they don’t look at who has a particular skill set.
